Can you use your skills to help others?
Who are we?
We are Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank, Bradford's original, independently run food bank, operating since 2004.
We receive donations of non-perishable foods and financial donations from individuals, communities and businesses, to provide food bags free of charge to professional organisations working with vulnerable people in need.
We operate primarily through our valued volunteers.
How can you help?
We are looking for people who are passionate about making a difference in the local community and willing to bring energy, enthusiasm, and supportive skills to our Management Committee (who are all volunteers), either to support its work or to take on the responsibility of being a Trustee.
In either role you will help develop a long-term strategy for the food bank, including supporting a move of premises and securing our financial position for the future.
We are particularly looking for individuals with skills and experience in
- Financial management
- IT (website, mail outs, document storage and controls, information governance)
- Publicity and marketing (promoting our work and seeking out donors of food and money)
- Communication (with volunteers, our recipient organisations and donors)
What does it entail?
You will attend Committee meetings, review and approve policies, review financial plans and budgets, ensure risk management is effective and our operations meeting our agreed aims.
We estimate there will be around 6 Committee meetings a year, these are usually around one hour long, with intermittent contact in between eg emails of Committee or related issues.
What will you get from it?
It’s a voluntary opportunity, so you won’t get paid for it. However, it’s something you can include on your CV, and you’ll get the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping some of the most vulnerable people in society to get through the worst period of their lives.
